The Dangerous Book for Boys The Board Game
Review by Troy Parrish

Seeing that we enjoyed The Dangerous Book For Boys we decided to get the board game. We sat down to play on Christmas day and we started with our 10 year old and 7 year old playing Dangerous Book for Boys The Board Gamethe game.

Give yourself some time to understand the rules of that game as well as the game play. The set up is not completely intuitive. It takes a little play time to get to a point that you understand what is going on. The object of the game is to move around the game board which is an island that you are stranded on. As you move around you either answer questions or perform tasks to collect pieces of your raft in order to escape the island, there are 5 raft peices per person. The first to collect all the pieces needed to complete the raft and reach the departure point wins the game.

We found the game very challenging, the questions in particular will really test your knowledge. I was reminded of an old version of Head of the Class board game that my mother-in-law has. This particular game involved answering questions and moving up to the head of the calss. What reminded me of this game was the difficulty of some of the questions. The questions of the old board game were really challenging, making me realize that if this was a kids game education really has taken a dive. The questions in the Dangerous Book for Boys board game was also very challenging, which I think is a good thing but may put off some boys because it is too difficult.

After playing the game a few times, my oldest son was really enjoying the game until his younger sister beat him the first time she played, so the game can be a lot of fun. I believe that the game would be very enjoyable shortly after reading the book as a lot of the questions reference information that can be found in the book but may still be very daunting to younger boys and as a consequence not very fun. The game does a lot of what the book does in terms of mixing fun challenging types of activity along side of some really informative questions, kind of a sneaky way of getting boys to consider learning about stuff they typically may not be interested in.

While this is can be a fun and informative game, it probably will not become a family classic.
