Getting Boys to Read

Reading is an invaluable skill in today’s world. Yet we know that boys are slower to learn to read and that as they approach the teen years they begin to lose interest in reading. Experts seem to agree that boys typically lose interest in reading due to the type of reading material that we present to them and that there are many other activities that boys gravitate towards other than reading. Raising Boys without Men Book Review

Peggy Drexler, PhD presents an argument that boys can be raised without men. This argument is based on her research into mothers raising boys without fathers in the home and doing so by choice. The majority of the mothers were lesbian couples. This review questions some of the elements of the study as well as some of the conclusions she draws from her own observations. Boys Need Dads

With the debate over what constitutes marriage and family continuing to heat up, the discussion of wether children need the presence of a particular gendered parent (mostly fathers) is raised. This is a necessary discussion in this debate. The reason for the necessity is in order for marriage and family to be redefined proponents need to convince us that this will do no harm to children.
